I hope you are enjoying this picture perfect autumn day! We have an exciting week ahead of us. I'm hoping this beautiful weather lasts through Wednesday, our field trip day to the farm.
Field Trip:

Please remember the following:
- Dress for the weather, we will be going rain or shine.
- Please pack a snack for your child to eat in the classroom before we leave at 9:30 a.m.
- Please pack a lunch for your child to eat in the lunchroom when we get back to school.
Reading:
Woops! I forgot to have the children pack up their reading books. They will be able to bring them home next Friday for reading practice before our assessment on The Enormous Up Turnip. Meanwhile, this is what we've been learning in reading:
The Enormous Turnip by Alexei Tolstoy. In this Russian folktale, a man plants a turnip that grows so large he can’t pull it out of the ground. He calls on other people and animals to pull up the turnip.

Social Studies:
We have completed our Map Skills Unit of Study. The children worked hard creating map games which included: a compass rose, (cardinal directions), symbols and a map key. When you play your child's game, you will notice that the essential skills of the unit are incorporated into the game's design:

My name is Monica Anderson and I am looking forward to being Mrs. Brouch's Room Parent this year! I will be helping coordinate volunteers in the classroom as well as volunteer opportunities that can be done at home. These include three class parties (Fall, Winter and Valentine's Day), class library volunteer, guest readers, supply donations and other needs that arise throughout the year. I will also be sending a friendly reminder when your special time with your child's class is approaching.
New this year, we will be using a simple scheduling website called www.signupgenius.com. This will allow you to view availability of volunteer opportunities online and plug yourself in to your desired time slot. Signupgenius is a VERY user friendly and efficient way of planning different activities within the classroom.
