Student report cards went home in Friday's home folder. When you have finished reading your child's report, please sign and return the EMPTY envelope. You may keep ALL of the CONTENTS of the envelope. I just need the signed envelope back ASAP.
Open House for Parents AND Students:
Don't forget that Open House is this coming week on Thursday. We have food riddles, dreams, writing, games and much more to share with you. This is a very exciting night for the students. Please plan to come! In order to cut congestion, we request that those with last names beginning with the letters A-L come from6:30-7:30 and those with last names beginning M-Z come from 7:30-8:30. I look forward to seeing you there. :)
Math:
In math this week, we worked on arrays and on equal sharing stories. Ask your child to look for arrays in your house and identify them for you. For example, a calendar is a 5 x 7 array - 5 rows of 7 boxes.
Reading:
Our story this week has been Dear Mr. Blueberry. We will be continuing this story next week as well. The focus skill is inferencing - taking the information in the book and "reading between the lines". For example, if a child runs up the stairs crying and slams their door, how can you infer how they feel? Based on a picture of a person's face, how can you infer how they feel? You can practice this at home by making different expressions and having your child infer what they mean.
Writing:
We have been working on paragraphs about how the children feel about snowy days. I have been so excited by their word choice and their sentence development. I can't wait for you to see them on Thursday!
Most students have finished their Slice of Life writing. As soon as everyone is finished, we will be sharing our photos and writing with one another. Students in 2BR have been doing a terrific job on writing their personal stories.
Social Studies:
This week we looked at different U.S. symbols and talked about what they represented. Ask your children what the stripes and the stars on the flag mean. Why are national monuments and symbols important? Why is the Statue of Liberty important?
