Reading Log:
Earlier this month a March Reading Log Calendar was sent home with your child. Please continue encouraging your child to read at least 10 minutes per day or 20 minutes every other day. Consistent reading throughout the month will help your child's reading fluency and comprehension grow. Your child can read traditional books or on-line books. I have posted several books under the Pearson Science Social Studies Link. Other on-line resources include Tumblebooks, Starfall, and Book Reviews: Spaghetti Book Club.
Please send your March Reading Log back to school the Monday that we return from spring break. I will be sending home the April Reading Log home this coming Friday. Happy Reading!! :)
Spring Read-In:
Students CAN wear pajamas to school if they would like, but this is optional. Your child must wear shoes to school, but may bring slippers for indoors if he/she would like.
On Friday, 03/25/11, 2nd Grade will be having a
Spring into Reading READ-IN DAY. Please bring
a sturdy bag with the following items to school with you:
1) Several (5-7) of your favorite books to read.
2) A flashlight or book light for “lights out” reading.
3) A small pillow and/or beach towel to make yourself a cozy reading spot.
4) A stuffed animal (1 foot long or smaller. Please don’t bring your very favorite one...temporarily misplaced pals can cause sleepless nights.)
5) An extra, healthy snack.

Your child is reading Max Found Two Sticks, by Brian Pinkney. In this story, a young boy named Max doesn’t feel like talking to anyone, so instead he finds two sticks and begins drumming on anything he can find. When he’s asked what he is doing, he just drums his answer. Then the sudden appearance of a marching band and an unexpected gift of real drumsticks change Max’s mood.
